Early Years and Career

Douglas "Doug" Emhoff was born on October 13, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, Michael and Barbara Emhoff, raised him in New Jersey, where he attended Ridgewood High School.

Emhoff went on to earn a bachelor's degree in communications from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a law degree from the University of Southern California Law School. He worked as an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles for several years before becoming a partner at the firm Venable LLP.

Marriage to Kamala Harris

Emhoff met Kamala Harris, then the Attorney General of California, on a blind date in 2013. They were married on August 22, 2014, in Santa Barbara, California. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by Harris's sister, Maya Harris.

Role as Second Gentleman

When Harris was elected Vice President of the United States in 2020, Emhoff became the second gentleman of the country. He is the first male spouse of a vice president and the first Jewish person to hold the position.

Emhoff plays an active role in supporting and promoting Harris's agenda. He frequently accompanies her on official trips and engages in public events to raise awareness about various issues, such as cancer research and voting rights.

Personal Life

Emhoff has two children, Cole and Ella, from his previous marriage. He is a devoted father and stepfather and often shares family photos and stories on social media.

Emhoff is an avid golfer and enjoys running. He also plays the guitar and occasionally performs at events.
