Bayer Leverkusen's Youth Academy: A Breeding Ground for Success

From Havertz to Castro, Leverkusen's Youth Academy has produced some of Germany's finest talents.

Interview with U17 Head Coach Sergi Runge and Assistant Coach Ken Izekor

Bayer 04 Leverkusen's youth academy has a long and proud history of producing top-class footballers. In recent years, the likes of Kai Havertz and Gonzalo Castro have emerged from the academy to become stars for both club and country.

In an interview with U17 head coach Sergi Runge and assistant coach Ken Izekor, we discussed the academy's success and how it can continue to produce players for the first team.

"We have a very good youth academy here at Leverkusen," said Runge. "We have a lot of talented players and a great staff. We work hard to develop our players on and off the pitch."

Izekor added: "We want our players to be technically proficient, but we also want them to be good decision-makers and tactically aware."

The academy's success is not just down to the quality of the coaching. The club also provides its young players with excellent facilities and support. The academy has its own training ground, which is equipped with everything that the players need to develop their skills. The club also provides the players with access to nutritionists, psychologists, and other specialists.

This investment in youth development is paying off for Leverkusen. The club's U17 team is currently top of the Bundesliga and three of its players have been called up to the Germany U17 squad. One player has also already qualified for the U17 Euros with his country.

Bayer Leverkusen's youth academy is a model for other clubs to follow. The club's commitment to youth development is helping it to produce some of the best young players in Germany.
